December 29, 2009 - Yankee Legend Yogi Berra said it best when he remarked, Its de ja vu all over again. We are officially canceling the Norfolk Half Marathon this year. Unlike last year, we waited to find out what the city wanted to charge us for their services before we opened registration for this year's Norfolk Half Marathon. Unfortunately, The City of Norfolk won't tell us what the deal is. We submitted a request for a permit with associated costs months ago, with no response from the city until pressed a week ago. They advised us they will have an answer for us in January. Of course this does not give enough time to properly prepare, or market a half marathon, especially with the huge unknown cost associated with city services. It is the intent of Kale Running, the East Beach community, the Ocean View Merchants Association and the event charity Lee's Friends to work through this year's permitting issues and bring back this event in 2011.
